Cherubina & Friends: Today we talk with Sandra Freckled

In this episode of Cherubina & Friends, we delve into the world of handbags with soul alongside Sandra Freckled , founder of the eponymous accessories brand 100% made in Spain. Sandra has just become a mother for the second time, yet she continues to lead a brand that champions timelessness, craftsmanship, and design for real women. Behind every piece is history, purpose, and a whole lot of heart. Today, we learn a little more about her story.

With a background in fashion and accessories design in Barcelona and London, and a career spent between Inditex and the Milanese creative scene, Sandra Jiménez decided to shape a deeply personal project: creating handbags with soul, well-made and designed to last. Thus was born Sandra Freckled , a brand committed to 100% Made in Spain and honest, relatable, and lasting luxury.

From her workshop in Seville—very close to the artisans of Ubrique—Sandra leads a brand where each design is inspired by a true story and stories of women with different styles and lives. Entrepreneurial, creative, and authentic, Sandra champions the value of craftsmanship, humor, and intimacy as key to creating something beautiful, useful, and truly engaging.

The origin of a dream

How did the Sandra Freckled brand come about, and what inspired you to venture into the world of handbags and accessories?

"It started at university, studying fashion design at ESDI (Barcelona). I wasn't drawn to accessory design, but I took that elective by default. And it turned out I was good at it. I had a fashion blog on Blogspot where I posted my projects, and when I published my handbag collection it was a hit: people started writing to me to order them. I made them in my mother's attic, with a rivet gun and scraps. Until one day my uncle, seeing me working until all hours, said: 'let's invest a little and do a mini production.' That's how Sandra Freckled was born. And although it wasn't all laughter, that was the beginning."

Design with meaning

Your style is recognizable and very special. How would you define Sandra Freckled's brand identity?

"I champion timelessness. I think of designs that last, that never go out of style. A well-made leather bag should last a lifetime. I have models from six years ago that are still bestsellers. I think that's where success lies."

Your products are made in Spain. What does it mean to you to work with national artisans?

"It's pure magic. The artisans of Ubrique are incredible. I've traveled to many factories around the world and I know they border on perfection. They make the biggest luxury brands there, and I want to be there too."

What role does design play in each collection?

"I don't start with a concept or a material. I start with a woman. All the pieces are named after real women: friends, clients, family members. I ask them: 'What would your perfect bag be like?' I write it down and develop it. Each one needs something different, and my dream is that every woman comes to the website and finds her ideal bag."

Closeness, community and values

Sandra Freckled has a very personal tone on social media. Why is it important to show the human side?

"Because behind the brand are ordinary, wonderful people making ordinary, wonderful bags for ordinary, wonderful people. Showing that makes us real."

You've just become a mother for the second time. How are you balancing this new phase with your business?

"It's incredibly difficult. Every day I feel like I'm not making it. But I also want my children to see an entrepreneurial attitude at home. After all, Sandra Freckled was my first baby, and she also needs to be taken care of."

What does luxury mean to you today?

"Luxury is subjective. For me, luxury is having something well-made, long-lasting, that you love, and that makes you feel good. And that doesn't have to cost €1,000."

Your community is very loyal. How have you built it?

"With effort, attention to detail, and honesty. When I see that someone has bought three, four, or six times, I get excited. Selling once is easy; the hard part is getting them to repeat. That only happens when something is well done and generates happiness."

Learn, insist, move forward

What challenges or lessons have you learned from starting a fashion business in Spain?

"It's incredibly hard, especially when you're committed to producing 100% of your production in Spain. But it also makes you humble, patient, and resilient."

What advice would you give to someone who wants to launch their brand from scratch?

"1. Be humble and don't give up. 2. Listen to the manufacturers. 3. Be patient. 4. Start small. 5. Focus on a specific audience and product. 6. Learn marketing and have a good manager on hand."

What's next for Sandra Freckled?

"I'd rather not give too much away because I'm superstitious, but I can tell you that you're going to be amazed by the colors and the winter collection. I designed it while pregnant and was incredibly inspired. And now comes the Candela model, the bag dedicated to my daughter. She can't speak yet, but I've imagined the bag she would need."

What phrase would you like those who know your story today to remember?

"Sandra Freckled is affordable luxury made in Spain."

Thank you, Sandra
