GUEST LOOKS AND SPECIAL OCCASIONS
It depends on the time of day, the venue and how formal the celebration is. For outdoor daytime weddings, lightweight fabrics and lighter tones usually work best; for evening ceremonies, bold colours and fabrics with more drape add elegance. It's also worth respecting bridal etiquette (avoiding white) and factoring in the local climate. Our guest dress collection is organised by wedding type and season to help you find the right look with no fuss.
Daytime weddings tend to take place in open spaces with natural light, so midi dresses in pastel tones, floral prints or earthy colours are usually a good choice. Flowing fabrics like linen or lightweight crepe are comfortable and cool. If the ceremony is in a garden or outdoors, avoid very thin heels. Discover options in our midi guest dress collection, designed with this type of celebration in mind.
Evening weddings allow for more sophisticated looks: long dresses, fabrics with drape like satin crepe or silk, and bolder colours — burgundy, emerald green, midnight blue — tend to be the most popular choices. It's also the moment to go for accessories with a bit more shine. Our evening wedding look selection brings together pieces designed for afternoon-evening ceremonies and more formal celebrations.
There's no fixed rule: it depends on the time of day, the venue and your own style. The midi dress is versatile and works especially well at daytime, countryside or beach weddings, while a long dress feels more formal and is usually reserved for evening ceremonies or more formal venues. Both options are equally appropriate as a guest as long as they suit the tone of the celebration; what matters most is feeling comfortable and in tune with the rest of the dress code.
As a general rule, avoid white and shades too close to the bride's, as well as all-black at daytime weddings (though this is increasingly accepted when paired with other colours). Beyond that there's plenty of freedom: pastel, earthy and floral tones work well by day, while jewel tones — burgundy, emerald, klein blue — stand out at evening celebrations. Always choose based on the season and how formal the event is.
The headpiece should complement the dress, not compete with it. With plain dresses you can go for headpieces with more volume or floral detail; with prints, it's best to opt for more discreet designs in a tone that already appears in the fabric. For morning weddings, hats and disc-style headpieces are the most common; for afternoon-evening, headbands and silk turbans are more fitting. Discover options in our guest headpiece collection.
The mother's look tends to be a little more formal than other guests', without taking the spotlight from the celebration. Suits and two- or three-piece co-ords are a reliable option: they let you adjust the level of formality depending on whether the ceremony is in the morning or afternoon, with lighter tones for the former and slightly bolder ones for the latter. In our communion and christening collection you'll find pieces designed specifically for mothers and guests.
The godmother usually plays a more prominent role than other guests, so her look allows for a bit more detail: long or midi dresses in understated tones, refined fabrics like crepe or mikado, and accessories with more presence, such as a structured headpiece. Even so, it's worth keeping some harmony with the rest of the wedding's dress code. Our godmother dress collection includes designs made in Spain for this role.
A headpiece isn't compulsory, but it's still a classic at Spanish weddings, especially for morning or midday ceremonies. For the afternoon-evening, more discreet versions are usually chosen, or skipped altogether in favour of other accessories. If in doubt, take your cue from the tone of the invitation: the more formal the wedding, the more common it is to complete the look with a headpiece or hat.
The key is not to overload the look: if the dress has a lot of print or embellishment, it's best to go for understated jewellery and a simple bag; if it's plain, you can afford accessories with more presence. The bag and shoes don't need to be exactly the same colour as the dress, but they should stay within a harmonious palette. Browse our guest accessories selection to complete the look from start to finish.
You can find the full Cherubina collection at cherubina.com, with shipping to Spain and many other countries, or try on the styles in person at our physical stores. Both share a festive spirit, but they're usually meant for different occasions: the guest dress is designed specifically for weddings, communions or christenings, with a clearer dress code (avoiding white, adapting formality to the time of day...); the party dress has more freedom of use, meant for dinners, celebrations or evening events, without the same unwritten rules. Explore both in our party dress collection and our guest dress collection.
